Official: Egypt ready to sign protocol with Russia to resume flights
MOSCOW, Oct 11 (PRIME) -- Egypt has informed Russia that it is ready to sign a joint security protocol to resume flights to Egyptian airports and is waiting for Russia’s decision on the issue, Egypt’s ambassador to Russia Mohammed Al-Badri told PRIME on Tuesday.
Earlier in October, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that Russia expects an answer from Egypt on a draft safety agreement for Egyptian airports.
Al Badri said, “I have read the statement by Dvorkovich. I am not sure whether he said that or not but I would like to guarantee that we fully support the already agreed protocol on the issue, we’ve been sticking to the position for the last five months… The signing of the protocol by the two correspondent ministries is a formality to which we are ready because this is a text which has been agreed.”
Moscow suspended flights to Egypt in November 2015 after a major crash of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula. Russia believes that the plane was likely brought down by a bomb.
